Knocking at the door...

An MGB makes noises.  The expectations on today's automobile are faint by comparison with those of 1967.  Even so, I was a bit taken aback when I took a colleague for a ride and he said "If you put your hand on the tunnel, you can feel a thump..."  Fortunately that was thump and not a "Trump";  that would be awful to feel!

In any case, he recommended to have a look under the shift tower.  Seemed wise.  I decided to raise her up, which I had not yet done, and see what's up.  There was more rust than I had expected, although, as a prior MGB owner, I knew the rust cancer could not be far back.  However, I was surprised to see:
It seems like those should be sinched down tight.  Maybe the knocking is these bolts hitting the edges of their holes?  I guess I'll find out on the way to work tomorrow!

By the way, Grandadddy, I'm pretty sure that is your ratchet.  Thanks for donating your tools to your sons!

Happy motoring!
