The Parking Brake Clown Car!

In my last post, I mentioned how much I missed my parking brake.  This became somewhat comical.  To understand, you must know that BB is tough to start.  In fact, I carry a can of Quick Start behind my back seat.  So, here's what happens if I need to get out to do something and leave the car running...without a parking brake.

First, check if I am on level ground.  If so, put BB in neutral and gently climb out and watch to see if she begins to roll away.  If not, I'm OK.  Do my task and she'll be there when I get back.

If she rolls...give a sigh.  Shut off the engine and put her in gear.  Go do my task.  Climb back in and crank the starter.  She doesn't start.  Climb out.  Grab the Quick Start from behind the driver's seat.  Open the hood.  Prop the hood.  Spray some Quick Start on the air cleaner.  Drop the can behind the driver's seat.  Jump in and crank the starter.  Hopefully she fires.  If not, wash, rinse, repeat.

This would be even more amusing in Germany.  If you have car trouble in Germany, and probably most of Europe, you are required to pull over, get a yellow vest from the trunk, put it on, and then address your issue.  Picture this in combination with the above.  BB won't start.  Open the hood.  Open the trunk.  Get the vest and put it on.  Get the Quick Start and spray it.  Take the vest off and put it in the trunk.  Jump in and turn the key.  If she doesn't start get out and go back to the trunk.  get the yellow vest...

In any case, you can imagine how happy I am to have a working hand brake!

Happy motoring and have #funwithcars !
