First 2025 Autocross!

I told myself that the goal for the first event was just to learn if the wheels (and the custom fabricated wheel hubs with some major engineering compromises!) would survive.  But, of course, in the heat of the event, one gets determined to win!  This I did not accomplish.  I seem to be getting slower, or else I keep finding more competitive events.

In any case, the wheels stayed on.  This is very good news as I had to shave off some of several lugs and have a spiderweb of aluminum holding on the rear wheels!  Also of note, my new brake fluid seems to have worked.  I experienced no fade issues.  The radiator also did OK although I'm still a bit unsure if it can handle a track day.

So here is some fun footage of my fastest run:

That was major fun!  Max speed is 50mph but, at the traction limit the entire time, it feels much faster!

Sadly, feeling fast is not running fast.  My chart continues to go in the wrong direction after every upgrade.

My worst gap ever to the Fastest Time of the Day.  Gap to Average not this bad for 5 years. At least my rank improved.  Also, I beat a Copley regular, who drives a Mini Cooper, for the first time ever.  I have concluded that I just need to be more aggressive.  I find myself gently applying the brakes, and a smooth transition is important, but you one also has to get the torque down quickly!

  1. Ah yes! The harder I try the slower I go. You are doing one of the hardest forms of motorsports there is. Clean and smooth is all it takes. Back when we had an active schedule of Autocross here in San Diego a guy would trailer down his MGB from L.A. He worked at Hollywood Sportscars and would often set FTD. (fast time of day) Across the trunk lid was painted “The secret is to not slow down for the corners”
